Edvard Munch. Woodcuts
The exhibition presents a truly remarkable private collection of woodcuts by Edvard Munch while relating the story of the friendship between the world-famous Norwegian artist and the hitherto unknown Danish poet Emanuel Goldstein.
Here, Munch’s powerful, brightly coloured woodcuts are juxtaposed with Goldstein’s fierce poems about erotic love. The coarsely carved motifs mesh with the ferocious, yet also heart-breaking tenor of the poems. Together, the works let the artists’ strong sensitivity to human emotions and relations take on a striking, sensuous immediacy.
